The main stops

Almost every trip in the lagoon starts at one of four stops. Piazzale Roma and Ferrovia at the railway station are where you arrive by car and by train. Fondamente Nove is the starting point for Murano, Burano and Torcello. San Zaccaria serves the Lido, San Giorgio, the Giudecca, San Servolo and San Lazzaro.

Which line goes where

Journey times are based on ACTV's autumn and winter timetable. In summer some lines run extra services, so the frequencies given here are the minimum.

  • Lines 1 and 2: from Ferrovia to Rialto, about 12 minutes on line 2 and about 19 on line 1. Line 1 continues from San Zaccaria to the Lido, roughly every 12 minutes on the winter timetable. Line 2 stops at San Giorgio and on the Giudecca.
  • Lines 4.1 and 4.2: the circular lines around the historic centre, from Fondamente Nove to San Michele in about 6 minutes and to Murano in about 9.
  • Line 3: direct from Ferrovia to Murano in about 17 minutes, from Piazzale Roma in about 21, roughly every 20 minutes on the winter timetable.
  • Lines 5.1 and 5.2: to the Lido, from Piazzale Roma in about 31 minutes and from Fondamente Nove in about 23.
  • Line 12: the main line to the north, from Fondamente Nove via Murano and Mazzorbo to Burano in about 40 minutes, roughly every 20 minutes on the winter timetable. Some trips also stop at Torcello directly.
  • Line 9: the shuttle between Burano and Torcello, about 5 minutes, roughly every 15 minutes.
  • Line 13: from Fondamente Nove via Murano to Vignole and Sant'Erasmo, with few trips.
  • Line 14: from San Zaccaria via the Lido to Punta Sabbioni, with some trips continuing to Burano.
  • Line 20: from San Zaccaria to San Servolo and San Lazzaro degli Armeni.
  • Line 17: the car ferry from Tronchetto to the Lido; more on our Car ferry to the Lido page.
  • Line 11: from the Lido via Pellestrina to Chioggia, with the Alberoni - Santa Maria del Mare car ferry along the way.

Journey times to all the islands are on our Islands of the lagoon page.

Which ticket you need

The single ticket is valid for 75 minutes across the whole ACTV network. There are also travel cards for 24, 48 and 72 hours and for 7 days. The 24-hour travel card bought from ACTV machines and ticket offices also covers Trenitalia regional trains within the municipality; the one booked online above does not. If you're between 6 and 29, the Rolling Venice card gets you a cheaper 72-hour ticket. For beachgoers there's a dedicated return ticket on lines 14 and 15, including the buses on the Lido.

Work out how often you'll travel: a day with two islands, there and back, can easily add up to four single tickets. You can compare the fares on our Prices page.

A few things apply to all tickets:

  • Children under 6 travel free.
  • On board you can only pay by card.
  • Tickets are not valid on lines 16 and 19, on the Casinò line, on Alilaguna or on the airport services.
  • Bicycles cost a supplement on the lines that take them. Folding bikes up to 150 cm travel free.

Alilaguna: the other operator

Alilaguna is not part of ACTV and sells its own tickets. Its lines mainly link the airport with Murano, Fondamente Nove, the Lido, San Marco and the historic centre. The Linea Verde runs as an excursion via Murano and Torcello to Burano.

Connections to the ferries

From Piazzale Roma you can reach the San Basilio catamaran terminal on foot or by vaporetto. The Fusina ferry terminal for the ferries to Greece is on the mainland. Both are covered on our Ferry terminals in Venice page.
