Getting to the terminal
The catamaran to Piran leaves from the San Basilio terminal, Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Lungo. Don't confuse it with the cruise terminal. From Piazzale Roma it's about 1 km on foot or about 20 minutes by vaporetto (water bus) on line 2. From the airport, ACTV bus 5 runs to Piazzale Roma. All of Venice's terminals are on our Terminals page.
Check-in
Kompas asks you to be at the terminal at least 60 minutes before departure. Have a valid passport or ID card ready. On the 2026 timetable the route runs on Saturdays only, from May into October. The catamaran comes over from Piran in the morning, which is why it doesn't leave Venice until the late afternoon.
On board
In 2026 the catamarans Prince of Venice and HSC Anđela serve the Piran route. The Prince of Venice has 328 seats and the Anđela 250, both with air conditioning and a bar. One piece of hand luggage up to 8 kg and one suitcase up to 20 kg travel free; Kompas gives the maximum dimensions in its terms and conditions.
Vehicles and bikes
The catamarans carry foot passengers only, so you can't take a car. Bicycles cost a supplement. Kompas does not carry e-bikes, e-scooters or other electric vehicles. If you want to bring a pet, ask Kompas when booking whether that's possible and on what terms.
Arrival and onward travel
In Piran you arrive in the town harbour. The border check is at the end of the longest pier by the red lighthouse. Cars are discouraged in the old town; if you're driving to the harbour, park in the multi-storey car park and take the free bus. Piran is the only Slovenian port served from Venice. The Croatian ports are Poreč, Rovinj and Pula.
