Table of Contents
First, to the Lido
The water route to Chioggia starts on the Lido. From San Zaccaria, lines 1, 5.1 and 14 take about 14 to 16 minutes to Lido S.M.E. on the winter timetable; from Piazzale Roma, lines 5.1 and 6 take about 31 to 32 minutes. All the ways of getting there are on our Lido page.

Line 11 via Pellestrina
From the Lido, ACTV line 11 takes over. It runs via the island of Pellestrina all the way to Chioggia and includes two stretches on the water:
- Car ferry from Alberoni to S. Maria del Mare: between the Lido and Pellestrina, the line crosses by car ferry. The crossing takes about 10 minutes, with departures roughly every 30 minutes between 10:00 and 16:00.
- Boat from Pellestrina Cimitero to Chioggia: for the last stretch, a boat runs from Pellestrina Cimitero across the lagoon to Chioggia, taking about 25 minutes and running roughly every 40 minutes between 10:00 and 16:00.
Allow time for the changes along the way. How long the whole trip takes depends on the connections. You can take a bike on line 11 for a supplement.
From Fusina to Alberoni
From the mainland at Fusina, a service runs all year round to Alberoni on the Lido, operated by Terminal Fusina Venezia rather than ACTV. The line 11 car ferry to Pellestrina leaves from Alberoni.
What makes Chioggia special
Chioggia sits at the southern tip of the lagoon, between the sea and the lagoon. The town is known for the Corso del Popolo and its canals, whose history is bound up with fishing, and its street plan follows a herringbone pattern. Its sights include the Porta di Santa Maria of 1530, the cathedral, Piazzetta Vigo with its column bearing the Lion of St Mark, and the Canal Vena. Chioggia and the Sottomarina coast have been awarded the Blue Flag by FEE Italia for several years running.
Venice access fee
Chioggia is a separate municipality and is not covered by Venice's access fee regulations. The Lido and Pellestrina, which you pass through on the way, are among the smaller islands where the City of Venice did not charge the fee in 2026. If your route takes you through the historic centre of Venice, its rules apply on the days the fee is charged.
