Greece: accommodation and vehicle set the price
Blue Star Ferries sails to Greece all year round, via Igoumenitsa to Patras. On this overnight crossing, two choices decide what you pay: your accommodation and your vehicle.
You can choose a cabin, a reserved seat or deck passage, and the three categories differ considerably in price. The vehicle is charged separately, according to its size. Camping on Board is not available on this route in 2026: even with a motorhome, you book a place on board for the night.
On the Greek route, Blue Star Ferries offers fixed percentage discounts on the standard fare:
- Outward and return in one booking: 30%, already included in the return fare
- Children aged 4 to 12: 50%
- Travellers aged 13 to 25 and 60 and over: 20% each on the passenger fare
- Members of motoring and camping clubs: 15% on the vehicle fare
The discounts for children, young people and seniors can't be combined; you always get the highest one. The club discount on the vehicle can be added on top. Since 2026 the base fares themselves have been dynamic, so the price is only fixed once you have your ticket.
Istria and Piran: one passenger fare per route
The catamarans don't carry vehicles, so you book per person and per route. In 2026 Kompas has low- and high-season fares and, as well as singles, sells a day return from Istria. Children aged 3 to 11 pay half, and children under 3 travel free. A bicycle costs €25 and an extra piece of luggage €5. The fares are in the table below.
Kompas serves Umag in high season only, at €89 single and €100 for a day return. Venezia Lines' standard day-return fare from Istria starts at €83 per adult.
Vaporetto and car ferry in the lagoon
ACTV's vaporetti serve every island in the lagoon. A single ticket is valid for 75 minutes and costs €9.50. It isn't valid on lines 16 and 19, on the Casinò line, on Alilaguna boats or on the airport services. If you're visiting several islands in one day, a travel card from 24 hours upwards usually works out cheaper. Children under 6 travel free, and on lines that take bikes a bicycle costs €1.50. Our Vaporetto page explains which travel card suits your plans.
The line 17 car ferry runs from Tronchetto to the Lido. The fare depends on the length of your vehicle, and the driver and passengers buy separate tickets. There are no return tickets.
The access fee for the historic centre
On designated days, the city charges day visitors an access fee, the Contributo di accesso. In 2026 it applied on 60 days between 3 April and 26 July, each time from 08:30 to 16:00. It applied only to the historic centre and cost €5 if you paid at least four days in advance, otherwise €10. Children under 14 are exempt, as are guests staying overnight in accommodation in the municipality of Venice, including Mestre and the Lido. If you're only changing at Piazzale Roma, Tronchetto, the Stazione Marittima or the San Basilio terminal and stay there, you don't pay. The smaller islands of the lagoon, such as the Lido, Murano and Burano, were exempt in 2026. The dates for 2027 are not yet set.
Current departures are in the timetable, and terminals and directions on our Terminals page.
