About us
Venice Ferries is an independent guide to the ferries from the port of Venice. We cover the Adriatic routes from Venice to Greece, Istria and Piran, and the public boats to the islands of the lagoon. Blue Star Ferries sails the Greek routes to Igoumenitsa and Patras, while the summer catamarans run by Kompas and Venezia Lines link Venice with Istria and Piran.
From Venice, the word "ferry" covers two very different things. To Greece, large overnight ferries cross the Adriatic all year round, with cabins for the journey and room for your car, motorhome and pet. To the Istrian coast, fast catamarans sail in summer, carrying foot passengers only and with no vehicle deck. Mix the two up and you end up looking for a car space on a route that has none. We keep them apart and tell you, for every route, when it runs, how long it takes and what you need to know about leaving from Venice. We also cover the islands of the lagoon, Murano, Burano, Torcello, the Lido and Chioggia, with the vaporetto (water bus) line, stop and journey time for each.
What this site is not
Venice Ferries is an independent guide. We are not the official website of a ferry operator or of a ferry terminal in Venice. We are not a Venice city guide or a hotel site: hotel booking, flights, car hire and sightseeing at your destination are deliberately left out. We concentrate on the crossings from the port of Venice. We do not sell tickets ourselves: bookings go through our partner Direct Ferries, where the current prices, availability and terms apply.
