How to get to Burano
Table of Contents
From Fondamente Nove: line 12
The usual way to Burano starts at Fondamente Nove on the northern edge of the historic centre. Line 12 calls first at Murano Faro, then at Mazzorbo, on some trips also at Torcello, and on the winter timetable reaches Burano after about 39 to 43 minutes. Between 10:00 and 16:00 it runs roughly every 20 minutes, Sundays included. Beyond Burano it continues to Treporti and Punta Sabbioni.
If you are already on Murano, board at Murano Faro.
From San Zaccaria: line 14
If you're starting from San Zaccaria, line 14 takes you to Burano via the Lido and Punta Sabbioni. That takes about 65 minutes, and only some trips run all the way to Burano, roughly hourly on the winter timetable. Going via Fondamente Nove is usually quicker.
From Punta Sabbioni and Treporti
Coming from Punta Sabbioni or Treporti, you don't need to go through the city. From Punta Sabbioni, lines 14 and 12 take about 25 to 29 minutes; from Treporti, line 12 takes about 15 minutes.
Vidali boats from San Marco
The boats run by Consorzio Vidali can be booked in advance, with a guaranteed seat. The outward trip goes via Murano or Torcello, and on the way back a boat runs direct from Burano to San Marco.
Day trip to Murano, Burano and Torcello
The three northern islands fit easily into one day. Take line 12 from Fondamente Nove, get off at Murano Faro for Murano, then catch the next line 12 on to Burano. From there, line 9 takes you to Torcello in about 5 minutes, roughly every 15 minutes between 10:00 and 16:00. To get back, take line 12 from Burano to Fondamente Nove. For a day like this, a travel card usually works out better than single tickets; the fares are on our Prices page.
What makes Burano special
Lacemaking on Burano goes back centuries. From 1872 to 1970 the historic Palazzo del Podestà di Torcello on Piazza Galuppi housed the lace school founded by Countess Andriana Marcello to revive the old craft. Since 1981 it has been home to the Museo del Merletto, the lace museum. In the mornings you can watch lacemakers at work there.
Venice access fee
The access fee for day visitors applies to the historic centre of Venice. Burano is one of the smaller islands where the city did not charge the fee in 2026. If your route to the vaporetto stop takes you through the historic centre, its rules apply on the days the fee is charged.
