Two terminals for the ferries

Venice's port has berths at Marittima, San Basilio and Fusina. Two of them matter for the ferries from Venice: Fusina on the mainland for Greece, and San Basilio in the historic centre for Istria and Piran. Marittima, by Tronchetto, is the cruise terminal. Your ticket tells you which terminal applies to your booking.

Fusina: the ferries to Greece

Blue Star Ferries sails from the Fusina ferry terminal, Via dell'Elettronica, 30176 Venezia. Allow for check-in at least three hours before departure. By car, take the A57 to the Mira-Oriago exit, then the SP81 onto the SS309 Romea towards Ravenna. Leave it at the Via dell'Elettronica exit and, at the roundabout, turn into Via Autostrade del Mare. Coming from Trieste, take the SS309 exit on the A57 towards Ravenna, Chioggia and Marghera.

Don't confuse it with the Terminal Fusina Venezia at Via Moranzani 79, which is a different place. Line 16 to the Zattere and the boats to Alberoni on the Lido leave from there, and there's also a car park. It has nothing to do with the ferry to Greece.

San Basilio: the catamarans to Istria and Piran

The Venezia Lines and Kompas catamarans leave from San Basilio, Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Lungo. It's a seasonal service, running roughly from spring into October; the timetable shows the departures. How to get there on foot, by vaporetto or by car is explained in the directions below.

Tronchetto and the People Mover

The People Mover links Tronchetto and Piazzale Roma in about two minutes. It runs from 07:00 to 23:00, every eight minutes. The line 17 car ferry to the Lido also leaves from Tronchetto; more on our Car ferry to the Lido page.

Parking for the catamaran trip

By car, you can only get as far as Piazzale Roma. AVM runs two multi-storey car parks there: the Autorimessa Comunale for longer stays and the Parcheggio S. Andrea for short ones. The Autorimessa has 1,906 car spaces, is open around the clock and takes vehicles up to 2.20 m high, so a motorhome won't fit. It's best to book online in advance. The stops for all ACTV lines are just a few metres away.

The car park at the Terminal Fusina Venezia on Via Moranzani also takes motorhomes and coaches. Sleeping in your vehicle is not allowed there. Charges are per 24 hours or part thereof. Line 16 runs from there to the Zattere.

Into the historic centre and to the islands

From Piazzale Roma and the railway station, vaporetti run in every direction. Which line goes where and which ticket you need is explained on our Vaporetto in Venice page. Routes to Murano, Burano, Torcello, the Lido and Chioggia are covered on our Islands of the lagoon page.

Getting to the San Basilio terminal

San Basilio is on Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Lungo, about 500 m from the church of San Sebastiano. Don't confuse it with the cruise terminal.

Google Maps

On foot

  1. From Piazzale Roma or the station

It's about a 15-minute walk to the terminal, and about 1 km from Piazzale Roma.

By vaporetto (water bus)

  1. S. Basilio stop

ACTV lines that call at S. Basilio stop right in front of the terminal. From Piazzale Roma it's about 20 minutes on line 2.

By car

  1. Over the Ponte della Libertà

After the traffic lights, take the second turning on the right. Only authorised vehicles may enter the port area, and there's no parking at the terminal itself. You can drop off passengers and luggage, then park at Piazzale Roma.

Questions about the terminals

FAQ

Which terminal does the ferry to Greece leave from? +

The ferries to Igoumenitsa and Patras leave from the Fusina ferry terminal on Via dell'Elettronica, on the mainland. Blue Star Ferries requires you to check in at least three hours before departure.

Which terminal do the catamarans to Istria and Piran leave from? +

From San Basilio on Fondamenta Zattere al Ponte Lungo, right in the historic centre. That applies to both Venezia Lines and Kompas. Kompas requires you to check in at least 60 minutes before departure and to carry a passport or EU ID card, because there's a border check.

Can I park right at the San Basilio terminal? +

No. There are no parking spaces at San Basilio; you may only stop briefly to drop off. Leave your car in one of the multi-storey car parks at Piazzale Roma.

Can I get to the Fusina ferry terminal by bus or train? +

Yes, by bus 16 from Venezia Mestre railway station. The stop is about 100 m from the port office on Via dell'Elettronica. Vaporetto line 16, on the other hand, leaves from a different pier in Fusina, the Terminal Fusina Venezia on Via Moranzani. By car or taxi you drive straight to the ferry terminal.

When does the ferry leave Venice? +

The timetable shows the departures to Greece and, in season, to Istria and Piran, in both directions and for your date.
