How to get to Murano

Table of Contents

From Fondamente Nove: line 4.1/4.2

The shortest way to Murano starts at Fondamente Nove on the northern edge of the historic centre. The circular lines 4.1 and 4.2 run via the cemetery island of San Michele to Murano Colonna, taking about 9 minutes on the winter timetable. Lines 12 and 13 leave from the same stop. They stop at Murano Faro at the other end of the island, also after about 9 minutes. Between 10:00 and 16:00, line 12 runs roughly every 20 minutes and line 13 roughly hourly.

Which stop suits you better depends on where you're going next: Murano Faro is the stop for line 12, which you take on to Burano.

From the railway station and Piazzale Roma: line 3

If you arrive by train or bus, there's no need to cross the city first. Line 3 runs from Ferrovia to Murano Colonna in about 17 minutes, and from Piazzale Roma in about 21 minutes, each roughly every 20 minutes.

From San Zaccaria: line 7

From San Zaccaria, line 7 runs to Murano as a seasonal daytime loop, roughly every 30 minutes. It's about 24 minutes to Murano Navagero and about 30 minutes to Murano Colonna. Outside the season, go via Fondamente Nove instead.

Vidali boats from San Marco

The boats run by Consorzio Vidali can be booked in advance, with a guaranteed seat. They run daily from San Marco to Murano and on from there to Burano or Torcello.

From the airport

Alilaguna's Linea Blu stops at Murano Colonna on its way from the airport. Alilaguna is a separate operator, and ACTV tickets are not valid on its boats.

Day trip to Murano, Burano and Torcello

Murano combines well with the other two northern islands. From Murano Faro take line 12 to Burano, roughly every 20 minutes on the winter timetable. From Burano, line 9 runs to Torcello in about 5 minutes, roughly every 15 minutes between 10:00 and 16:00. To get back, take line 12 to Fondamente Nove. For a day like this, a travel card usually works out better than single tickets; the fares are on our Prices page.

What makes Murano special

In 1291 the Republic of Venice moved all glassmaking to Murano to keep the fire risk from the furnaces out of the city. Today the Museo del Vetro in Palazzo Giustinian holds the largest historical collection of Murano glass, with pieces from the 15th to the 20th century. Murano has been part of the municipality of Venice since 1923.

Venice access fee

The access fee for day visitors applies to the historic centre of Venice. Murano is one of the smaller islands where the city did not charge the fee in 2026. If your route to the vaporetto stop takes you through the historic centre, its rules apply on the days the fee is charged.
